As part of the Social Studies Unit on Medieval Societies, Grades 6-8 went on a field trip to the splendid Japan Open-Air Folk House Museum, located in Kawasaki city last Friday.
The park is the site of the beautiful Japanese Folk House Museum, a permanent exhibition of traditional Japanese houses across the centuries. All houses have been moved from their original locations and rebuilt here for everybody to enjoy and learn from.
Students experienced living and exploring the traditional culture of Japan in an old Japanese folk village of the 17th to 19th Century. Students visited 25 folk houses, viewed the design and construction of the old folk houses, house building tools and farmer’s tools used in daily life.
